GROW UP.
Grow up. Oh how that phrase erks me. What is it's meaning? Grow up how? Into what? Is the phrase grow up biblical? No and yes. Not unless its terms are defined. The idea of growing up into spiritual maturity is emphasized many times over in scripture. The ends being spiritual maturity, not earthly so called success. The ends being fruits of the spirit. Love. joy. peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.
All these things are true signs of maturity in ones life. Self control is on there, so do not mistake poor decision making skills as maturity.
But so are many other virtues.
Sometimes? That patience? That kindness? That gentleness? Must be directed at the wretch of a human you are.
How do you hope to have peace and joy? To remain faithful if you are only trying to be as the phrase goes, "put together." If you are simply trying to appear to be a grown up. "Adulting" Another phrase that can be used to describe someone who cares far too much about the opinions of those around them to trust God's faithful love for them. Love. The greatest of these. It is.
